  1. I have to say that I had to think about this quite hard. It’s a bit like a divorce that you never saw coming. I was taken aback by the sense of hurt, frustration and betrayal. And I found myself saying something like – surely we can come to some arrangement about this (obviously I’d be no good in a real divorce).

    I’m also a little surprised that you have a belief in longevity when it comes to political attitudes and positions; surely the Dutch have proved the point.

    I can’t help feeling that you may have to try out a few countries before you are done.

    There is a famous English play which contains the lines: What’s done is done and cannot be undone. The reference was to the murder of one of the characters. Politics isn’t like murder, though, is it? What’s done is done, but it can always be undone (as long as there are enough undoers in the political mix).

    I guess I got here a bit too late.
